2. 2. – 27. 2. 2010
Opening on 30.01.2010
Argos – Centre for art and Media, Werfstraat 13 Rue du Chantier, 1000 Brussels
The exhibition will be the most comprehensive presentation of an ongoing performative research about Biosphere 2, the 1990s’ closed ecosystem and test for space colonies – a small world of its own and a phantasmatic hinge between the “global transformations” around 1989. The full exhibition title is appropriatily long and referentially contorted.
The presentation at Argos features both existing works and new stuff in various media, among them a 3-dimensional window into the Biosphere’s rainforest biome, three drops in midair (einer billigen Linse gleich) and location scouting footage by the lovely little robots Huey, Dewey & Louie, and we are all howling in there, like Howl, like at the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
From the Argos text by Ive Stevenheydens:
…travelling through Biosphere 2, or: Anastylosis of Follies is a subjective and often playful anthology of various positions the artist adopts and thoughts he puts forward concerning Biosphere 2.
Among other things, Mayer uses objects as „polyrhythmic allegories“ for Biosphere 2. (…) It is possible, for instance, to interpret these objects as faux scientific studies, as film or theatre props or, purely aesthetically, as sculptures. This ambiguity is echoed in the videos and written works included in the circuit.
This exhibition would not have been possible without the great and generous support of Christian Töpfner, Christina Linortner, Franz Mayer, David Kellner, Oliver Gemballa, Philipp Haupt, Krõõt Juurak, Biosphere 2 and last but not least Synergia Ranch. Thank YOU!
