So if there are traces left, they are not so much 'real' as they are mere interpretations of symbols of what has been going on. If you were closed in at Hvitfeldska for example, you will be reminded of that everytime you see a container. The architecture of supression materializes through these symboilc elements. Maybe that's one of our points about documenting, that we don't have to show the actual places at the actual time when things happened, but we're using rather abstract imagery that can be interpreted according to what you hear in the interviews. It's a question of interpretation: if you walk today on Avenyn and see broken windows, you start to bring together this with what happened in 2001, although the actual broken glass probably has nothing to do with that. In the end you might find yourself in a situation where you can't decide anylonger what's interpretation and what's real. And that's an important thing about the political aesthetics of this system. |
